Ruby James (Queenstown)

Ruby James

Queenstown

Ruby grew up in a musical family surrounded by instruments, and she initially chose the piano, which, combined with her voice and lyrics, is her prime weapon. She is also a competent guitarist and bass player, having played bass in at least two groups, and often switching to guitar during a solo performance. These are powerful and captivating - her voice is full and emotive, projecting lyrics that can cut as easily and often as they soothe, and reinforced by complex, intricate, and expressive music that appears to occur naturally without the slightest trace of effort.

The music falls broadly in the blues/jazz/folk/soul space, and rock; when combined with a full band. When collaborating with other musicians these themes can evolve and elevate. Having finished university study, Ruby is pursuing music as a full time career.
