DJ Implicit (Nelson)

For over 15 years, Layla has played Sax with various House and DnB DJs, as well as playing DJ sets at festivals and clubs in Auckland, Christchurch, and London, such as Phat, Luminate, Destination, and Taiko, and improvising on Sax with DJs at London’s Ministry of Sound, Pascha and Egg nightclubs.

Over the last 15 years, Layla has been part of some session musician releases as “Freedom on Sax” but in more recent years, Layla has also been turning her focus to piano composition and songwriting, performing at open mic nights since August 2022, and in 2023 worked on an acoustic album which has now been put on hold (please request for private links of demo songs). However there can be no doubt her passion is Electronic music, especially combining Live Sax and Vocals with House, Breakbeat, and Drum n Bass. 

In April 2024, Layla released her first electronic single Hear 2 Ascend, a House track she wrote, produced and vocalled herself.  Also soon to be released, is a liquid Drum n Bass track 'Hear Hear' (with production by Eavesdrop), layered with Miss Implicit’s sweet and soulful saxophone playing. She also released two acoustic tracks in a West Coast original songwriters compilation album released March 2023 before starting the album.

Layla has organised and performs at gigs such as “Mystiq Catalysts” open live jam with DJ events since 2023 and some years previous with various costume themes in Christchurch, Nelson, West Coast, Auckland over July and August 2024.
